In a question and answer session at the Gartner Symposium event, Google Executive Chairman Eric Schmidt made a statement which invited laughter from the audience. At that time, Schmidt said that the security of the Android platform is superior to the iPhone.
Comments related to this Android platform security expressed by Schmidt in response to a statement from David Willis, an analyst at Gartner.
"When you do a poll of most people from the audience , they would say that Google's Android is not their primary platform. Moment you say Android, the people said, wait a moment, Android is not safe," Willis said, as quoted from ZDNet, Wednesday ( 08.10.2013 ).
"Unsafe ? Android more secure than the iPhone," Schmidt replied quickly.
The statement is said to laughter from the audience in attendance.
Google officials did not directly explain the meaning of this statement . He just said , Android has been present long enough and has about 1 billion users. Therefore, Android already through security testing directly every day.
Android platform is often regarded as the "nest" malware. In fact , the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation ( FBI ) has issued a warning related to existing malware on Google's platform fib.
The malware is different kind. Most existing malware used by cyber criminals to steal critical data users and take over an infected device.
fragmentation problem
In the event, Schmidt also get a question about fragmentation on Android. Fragmentation itself has been complained by many Android users as one of the weaknesses of these platforms.
The term here means a lot of fragmentation in the Android apps that are not compatible with the display on the device screen size and resolution are different , especially in a small sailing or Android smartphone that comes with a physical QWERTY keyboard.
Through a statement, Schmidt seemed to want to assert that there is no such thing as fragmentation in the Android ecosystem. According to him , every vendor always keep the online store Google Play Store always compatible.
"With Android, we have an agreement with the vendor that you will make Android compatible stores and this is an important breakthrough for Android," Schmidt said.
Schmidt comparing Android with Unix, in which Unix users do not have a store app that keeps them unified.
